Color Through Body Porcelain Tile

A technically advanced version of glazed porcelain color body porcelain is created by coloring the body of the tile with the surface glaze s most predominate pigment.

Through body porcelain tile characteristics unglazed porcelain tile is colored by the mineral deposits in the natural clay used in the making of the tile or through the addition of other natural pigments to the clay. Color body tile is especially useful in tile that has a bold design. Some people refer to unglazed porcelain tile as through body i e the color on the top goes all the way through. Full body tiles may use different colored clays.

Porcelain tile has the same color throughout the material. The finish of porcelain is smoother than that of ceramic. Even in extreme applications these tiles tend not to show wear as the porcelain is quite durable harder than granite and the color goes all the way through. If color body tile chips at all the design of the tile will remain.

Through body tile shows fewer signs of wear and tear over time so you can get a better look of tile for longer. The through body porcelain is the most preferred because the color is uniform throughout so chips and normal wear and tear are less noticable. The through body may have no glaze or some glaze but the color body typically has a glaze although both have a lovely finish. Full body porcelain means the entire tile is composed of natural clays.

There are two primary differences between these two types of tiles. A broken or chipped piece of unglazed porcelain will have a uniform color throughout its thickness. Many glazed porcelains also have extremely good durability. Color body designs are available in cement porcelain and ceramic tile.

Color body porcelain refers to tiles that have a decorative pattern on the surface and the bisque or body of the tile is the most predominate color found in the tile. Synchronizing the color of both the glaze and body lessens the visibility of any impact chips which may occur. During the firing process sintering occurs making the tile one. In other words the tile will have a texture or decorative pattern on the surface just like a standard glazed tile while the body also called the bisque is a solid color.

There are 4 main types of porcelains shown in the chart below this is a side angle portrait of tile. Color body porcelain tiles are created with continuous colored stains from the glaze surface throughout the body of the tile. Full body is not the same as through color.
