It was used to hide fire which could be seen for miles on the plains burn with minimal smoke as it provides enough oxygen to prevent most smoke and to burn in a manner that is incredibly efficient as fuel came scarcely on the plains.

The ground was still warm to the touch 4 hours later. Another thought would be to make essentially a keyhole fire. This brings in plenty of fresh oxygen for combustion. Has a wood stove electricity air hockey table tent site out back outdoor fire pit and a propane bbq with a single side burner.
